How We Help
Toma Fund is a regional charity that supports children, teenagers, young people and their families from the North East & Cumbria whose lives have been affected by diagnosis of childhood cancers.
The work of the charity currently falls into two main streams:
We have two grant programmes available:
Main grants up to £500 awarded for a variety of uses: help with financial difficulties; purchase of household white goods; laptops; tablets/smartphones; exercise equipment; holiday insurance/spending money; car repairs; garden play equipment; training courses; travel expenses; clothing; bedding etc are just some of the things we have funded.
Crisis grants up to £1000 are awarded in times of emergency. Our Crisis Grants have stopped people being evicted when we have contributed towards rent, mortgage or loan arrears; they have enabled needy families to secure travel insurance to take a sick child on holiday and we have also contributed towards funeral costs for young people who tragically lost their battle with cancer.
Our grants are not means tested and are non-judgemental. The grants panel assess each application against our simple criteria and provided the application meets the criteria and we have the funds available then Toma Fund is happy to help.
Families living through treatment for cancer in children and young people live under incredible stress and worry. There is strain on the whole family and sometimes it is lovely just to do something a little bit different, something that is nothing to do with hospital, doctors, medicine – in fact something that is nothing to do with cancer.
Toma Fund is able to offer positive experiences that can provide memories for the future. Experiences can take many forms and can include, but are not limited to:
We can’t fund dream holidays or promise you will meet a superstar hero but we can offer the opportunity for families to enjoy some quality time together, have a bit of fun and build positive lasting memories.
